About this place
For anyone keen to compare raw oysters from different regions rather than order just one kind, Daiyasu offers seasonal assortments of three or four varieties. The selection features oysters in season from across Japan, and their origins, sizes and prices vary with the supply. One diner who tried the four-variety platter recalled that each oyster had its own flavour and texture, with lemon and condiments bringing out their individual character. Choose four varieties for a broader tasting, or start with three. The menu lists the three-variety assortment at around ¥1,560–¥1,740 and the four-variety one at around ¥2,000–¥2,300. Prices depend on supply, so check them at the restaurant when you visit.
To add a hot oyster dish to the tasting, try the signature grilled oysters (2 pieces). The menu describes them as grilled until fragrant, concentrating their savoury flavour; 2 pieces cost ¥980. Some visitors have paired raw oysters and obanzai (small prepared dishes) with oysters and seasonal vegetables stir-fried in butter and a yam dish, alongside a tasting of Kyoto sake or sake from elsewhere in Japan. Ordering a few small plates around the oysters makes for a relaxed lunch with drinks.
Other reported options include oysters in oden simmered in white miso and oyster gratin. With oysters served raw, grilled, simmered or baked in gratin, the menu offers choices whether you want to make a tasting the focus or build a meal around warm dishes.
